Meantime Brew Master, Alastair Hook, has spent 20 years planning the quintessential English lager. His reasoning is simple. The great European lager brewers use very soft water and neutral yeasts to ensure that only the flavours of their locally grown malt and hops come to the fore. East Anglia is home to the world’s finest malting barley and Kent is home to some of the world’s best hops. Midway between the two, London is ideally placed to bring them together in a straightforward, clean, long-matured, unpasteurised lager, where all you can taste is malt and hop.

A beer is only as good as the ingredients used to make it. Premium Strisselspalt hops, unique to Alsace, have been exclusively used in Kronenbourg 1664 since 1885. Known as the ‘caviar of hops’ by master brewers, Strisselspalt give Kronenbourg 1664 a low bitterness and aromatic quality. Beer connoisseurs will notice a persistent fruity aroma, with notes of citrus peel and spices, and a medium and sustained intensity. Strisselspalt hops help create the beer’s pale yellow and golden hue. A fairly dense, long-lasting white creamy head, with fine bubbles, can be achieved with the perfect serve. Its good balance, fine quality and delicate bitterness really are a taste suprême.

It gave us countless movies, paintings, buildings and songs. And, of course, it gave us Grolsch, the two-hop brewers who've always sought to invest back into that culture of untrammelled creativity, who've always chosen interesting over conventional, and brilliant over boring.

One hundred and fifty years ago the new bitter beer style, Pale Ale, was so popular that brewers had to import Californian hops to meet demand. Meantime London Pale Ale continues that tradition by combining lots of American Cascade and Centennial hops to give it a complex citrus aroma and buckets full of local Kentish Goldings to provide the bitterness that makes the style so refreshing. Together they conspire to assail the nose with a complex, heady mix of  spearmint, grass and ‘hop sack’ aromas, fruity citrus flavours and a bitter finish that makes pale ale drinking a truly rewarding experience.

Brewed by Howling Hops Howling Hops was established in 2011 by Peter Holt, whose uncanny dream it was to brew beer in the tiniest space in the UK, under the Cock Tavern in Hackney. Since brewing and perfecting over 100 recipes on their 4-barrel kit (where unless you were a brewer under 5’9″, you couldn’t physically brew here), Howling Hops have gone from strength to strength brewing from their new pad in Hackney Wick, where you can sample some of the finest brews this side of Ouagadougou from their Tank Bar (the first of it’s kind in the UK!). It’s their killer range with an affinity for US styles that wins us over every time.

Created with a passion for flavour and a lust for hops — this is a frisky, fragrant pale ale. Whilst consistency is (rightly) the benchmark of most beers, we’ve gone Wild and thrown away the rulebook on this one.
Every six months we source some of the most interesting hops from the northern and southern hemispheres, which means two hop harvests and two excitingly different hop profiles.
Given the unpredictability of each harvest, you’re guaranteed a punchy hop character alongside an appetising bitterness and a crisp dry finish that will send you back for more.

Vibrant Forest - Kaleidoscope - 6.5% Pale Ale - Craft Beer KeyKeg (52 pints) - England Image
Vibrant Forest has developed a new beer and since I, the brewery’s graphic designer, came up with the name, design and bespoke font, I’ve ultimately won the right to add it as the first news article on their website.
There were many names bandied about, and oddly, none of them were four-letter ones; names such as Portal, Analogue, Silenced, Origin and Psychedelia, however after a gentle push (more like a full-blown shove), I finally persuaded Vibrant Kev to go with Kaleidoscope. Having now tasted the India Pale Ale on numerous occasions, it’s the perfect name for it, and everyone who’s tasted it so far, agrees.

When it comes to cider, there’s no doubt that we’re a new breed of urban cider maker and our approach is simple… we’re putting real apples back in to cider. We started by kicking out all the artificial stuff to produce only the real thing. What we do at Hawkes is unique; we’re blending country apples with hand picked urban apples, provided by the community. Why? To us, the urban apple and orchard are the perfect representation of the Hawkes ethos. They show that against all the odds, in the most unlikely of environments, a fruit-bearing tree can be born, survive and flourish. At Hawkes we are proud to celebrate this remarkable fruit to create a cider & business that is making a difference, one apple, one orchard and one community at a time.

One Point Eight's signature cocktail the Espresso Martini is a closely guarded secret blend of coffee and rum. Made using hand roasted coffee created specially to fit the taste profiles of the drink. After the time and effort that goes into cold brewing and infusing this cocktail they're very protective of how and where it's served. One Point Eight only ever let it out with one of their team who know exactly how to serve their product. When served through their hand crafted tap system their Espresso Martini is an indulgently sweet and bitter cockail with a silky texture that’s sure to impress when it cascades into the glass.
Vanilla infused vodka with Black Ei8ht coffee rum and cold brew coffee. Creamy and delicate. As the first of its kind in the UK, it’s a game-changer.
