Serving Guinness on Draught

Serving a great pint of Guinness requires the correct draught dispense setup. Unlike many standard lagers, Guinness Draught relies on a nitrogen-rich mixed gas system to create its characteristic smooth texture, cascading appearance and dense, creamy head.

This Guinness 50 Litre Draught Keg requires an A-Type keg coupler to connect the keg to your dispense system. The current 50L Guinness keg supplied by Love Beer is specified as an A-Type fitting, so customers should check that their existing equipment is compatible before ordering.

For the traditional Guinness draught serve, a 70/30 mixed gas — approximately 70% nitrogen and 30% CO₂ — is recommended. The nitrogen-rich gas mixture helps produce the smooth mouthfeel and creamy head associated with Guinness. Using standard 100% CO₂ intended for many lagers can result in excessive carbonation and foaming and will not produce the same draught characteristics.

Once correctly connected and chilled, Guinness should be poured into a clean, dry glass using the traditional two-part pour: fill the glass to approximately three-quarters while holding it at an angle, allow the characteristic surge to settle, and then complete the pour to form the creamy head. Guinness itself describes the two-stage method as part of the draught serving process.
